Joo is currently a board member of both LG Electronics and the Korean Institute of Certified Public Accountants (KICPA). Previously, he was dean of the University College and dean of academic affairs at Yonsei University.
Part of Joo’s responsibilities will be leading IFAC’s collaboration with the International Accounting Education Standards Board (IAESB) to establish a comprehensive, integrated model for accounting education and professional development, which will be overseen by the IFAC Board and begin operations by July 1, 2019.
“I believe strongly in the potential of the profession to support the growth and stability of organizations, financial markets, and global economic progress,” Joo said. “I am honored and energized to lead IFAC during this time of great change and opportunity for our profession. In particular, I look forward to focusing on a future-ready profession which harnesses the strength of its education platforms and commitment to ethics.”
